Medical Assistant FT

PURPOSE:
The Medical Assistant with SCheduling duties is a specifically trained individual who demonstrates expertise in assisting patients during all aspects of care. Performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of the Physician or Physician's designee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the guidance of the Physician, responsibilities are as follows:
Remain with Physician at all times in the exam room or as directed
Assist the Physician in all aspects of the patient's initial consultation, and:
Weekly status checks
Routine follow-up examinations
Any emergency visits that are needed.
Schedule and follow-up on all diagnostic studies that are ordered including proper documentation and obtaining Physician's signature on test result
Responsible for acquiring results and notifying Physician of results on all interim reports
Chart information of patient progress on weekly status check sheets and submit copy of medical notes to Front Desk Receptionist in the applicable office
Draw blood for various lab tests that are sent out in applicable office and follow up on results of lab including obtaining Physician's signature on test results
Attend annual OSHA/Biomedical update meetings/training and apply updates in the clinical setting
Document medications the patients are currently taking, and document any new medications prescribed by our Physicians while under our care to include the name of the medication, dose and amount prescribed, Physician prescribing, instructions, date and Nurse's initials
Document any samples given to patient
Responsible for charting patient's vital signs, initial weight, and all follow-up weights
Verify the allergy sticker is complete
Responsible for reporting or verifying all patient problems as reported
Maintain HIPAA rules and regulations as it applies to patient privacy
Maintain open communication with front desk, nursing staff, etc. as it applies to:
Patient add-ons
Patients needing treatments
Changes in any treatment plans
This position will also require Scheduling duties to be performed including but not limited to:
Schedule and co-ordinate surgery procedures between patient, physician and hospitals
Extensive contact with Physicians, Patients, Hospitals and Insurance companies
Schedule all surgeries or radiology procedures at hospitals and or Radiology offices
Communicating to patients' any and all pre-operative and pre-radiology workup and testing
Obtain all authorizations for surgeries and radiology procedures
Maintain contact between both offices for the purpose of coordinating surgery assists if necessary
Maintain Surgery Schedule in Book and in Computer so Physicians can access their surgery schedules
Assist in any and all front office duties, i.e. filing charts, answering phones, etc. as time permits
Maintain an active hospital patient treatment list that must be updated daily
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
Professional and reliable
Good interpersonal and organizational skills
Demonstrates care and compassion in dealing with patients
Ability to multitask and be detail oriented
Good computer skills
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school graduate or equivalent
Minimum of 1 year experience as a Medical Assistant/Scheduler

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
